BIO UPDATE 5/10/17 – I’m doing FANTASTIC in training!  I’m learning all the skills I need to be a fine, upstanding doggie citizen.  I no longer bark or chase the cats around here but they don’t run from me so that helps!  (If a cat runs I would want to chase it, but a quick “nope” and I will stop).  I don’t go crazy every time I see Carl (the pot belly pig that lives here) and I LOVE my daily walks on the treadmill (that’s right, I love walking on the treadmill).  My foster mom/trainer says I’m such a fast learner & I’m really eager to please (it helps when she has really yummy treats!).  If you have any questions about me please give foster mom a shout at .  She will tell you what a great boy I am becoming!

BIO UPDATE 5/1/17 - I’m currently in training and will not be available for adoption until 05/22/17.

During my training I will learn sit, stay, down, leave it, heel, place, off, and gain some control over my HIGH prey drive. My new forever home will have to commit to continuing my training. Even though I will have all of my commands down pat, you will have to continue so that I will not revert back to old bad habits. I’m a big guy in a little package!

Hi, I’m Rocket!  I’m an active kinda guy so if you like jogging or going for long walks, I’m the guy to keep you company.  They say I have to tell you that I MUST have a fenced in yard to run off my energy and hopefully you’ll have another bigger dog for me to run & play with.

I like people, but little kids that can’t respect my boundaries make me very nervous so they told me to ask you for no young kids.  I’m okay with older kids, but young screaming kids... “no way”.

I came from a shelter in middle Tennessee where I was dropped off. Thankfully, the shelter works with rescues as much as possible so “here I am”.

I like to play with toys, so please, when you adopt me have lots of them for me to run around with.

Did I tell you I have a “HIGH” prey drive?   So, no cats, rodents, or birds because it will drive me crazy!  My temporary foster home had a pot belly pig and I wanted to get to him so badly but couldn’t.

If you think you could be my new forever home then fill out an application. Who wouldn’t want a fully trained handsome guy like me!

=============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  This foster home volunteer would be happy to answer and has the most up-to-date information about this dog.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.
You will need to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the states of CT, RI, NH or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, please take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information section.  Transportation options are outlined in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast.

We just can't get them from one Coast to the other, but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, we encourage you to look for dogs on your coast.
